+ the girl
The 21-year-old Mary Lovett is a thriving reporter and journalist. Known for her tricky questions and blunt manner there are more and more people who would love her to fall silent. But Mary has her own plans, even if it doesn't make her a role model.

+ the town
born and raied in middle-class chicago mary can't imagine living anywhere else. she's in love with the city's flair and the life-style and of course her job's here.

+ the family
- the grandfather / Arthur Lovett
As a retired police comissionar he has seen enough fights in this city to be protective about his granddaughter. He's a nice and chilled person, but he would rather like to see Mary safe and decently married.

- the grandmother / Elizabeth Mary Lovett
eponym of her granddaughter and representative of the family's honor. Grandmother Lovett always wanted her family to grow and be admired by all. so she would like to marry her granddaughter off, but her reasons couldn't be more different than her husband's.

- the father / Douglas Lovett
An eccentric, smart man, who became a father too early. Of course he couldn't raise his daughter protected and after his wife ran off once and for all, he was happy about his parent's support. his life is as confused as it has been and well, he isn't averse to earn some easy money. no matter what his daughter may think about it.

- the mother / angelina lovett
there's little that can be said about Mary's mother. She has left her family early after giving birth and Mary never wanted her in her life.

+ the job
mary's job is mary's life. since she got promotion she's always on the run to do the heck of her job. she's a reporter and journalist with all her heart.

+ the boss
her boss, mike clayton, is another important person in Mary's life. He promoted her and he's always challenging her with the next job. he has his own opinion about the 'new' world and lifestyle, but it's not clear what he's planning on. well, sure is, that mary is his dupe - good or not good for her.

Name: mary lovett
Age: 21
Occupation: up-and-coming journalist & reporter for one of the biggest dailies in town
Likes: her job, smart people, chicago's nightlife, cigarettes, sequins, wide-leg trousers, lipstick, her bicycle, silent films, people who cooperate
Dislikes: secrets, her work going unappreciated because of her gender, being bossed around, her boss, boredom, knives, operas, playboys, anything that distracts her from doing her job, clumsiness, not being up-to-date, naivety
Bio: born in middle-class chicago and raised by her grandparents, because of a runaway mother and an eccentric teen dad, no one expected Mary Lovett to grow into a successful reporter and journalist. the lovett-family had always been an average, considered family in chicago and while the on-and-off-marriage of mary's parents have been deprecated, Mary herself was the brightest hope for restoring the lovett's reputation.
during childhood Mary learned about the rules of the upper lifestyle - but she found the secrets herself. in time she deep-sixed all the learned rules and special etiquette to find out more about the hidden side. her passion was woken and with her writing talent and modern charm it shouldn't have been hard to find a job. but all she got was an employment as a second secretary at a local press.
well, lucky mary lovett, she caught her boss' eye. he promoted her and she became a /real/ reporter. better than that, her boss introduced her to the 'new upper life' and it looked like she - and her family - would get all they wanted.
however mary knows that there's a lot more than speaking to a few rich men. there are the mobs. and money. her dad taking part in all of this. and her questions all over the place.
but mary won't stop just because it's getting dirty.
